Dr. Hania Salame

GRA Principal

Assalamu Alaikum!

It is truly an honor to serve as principal of Great Revelations Academy. I graduated from Wayne State University on May of 2015 with a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction majoring in Education and Science. Prior to that, I received two masters’ degrees: Master of Art in Teaching from University of Michigan-Dearborn and Master of Science in Biological Sciences from Wayne State University. I hold the professional teaching certificate in Mathematics and Biology since 2004. My undergraduate major was Biological Sciences in which I received the degree of Bachelor of Science as I attended Wayne State University and Henry Ford Community College.

My PhD dissertation is titled as “Using the Instructional Congruence Model to Change a Science Teacher’s Practices and English Language Learners’ Attitudes and Achievement in Science.” It reflects my dream for the field of education which translates into reaching out to different learners to establish better understanding and comprehension. It also included training a science teacher to use the instructional Congruence Framework and creating lessons to incorporate literacy and student’s cultural components into the science classroom.

I believe that being in the education field for over two decades and carrying three advanced degrees will aid in promoting academic excellence within this institute and advance our student’s future and growth overall. I assumed the roles of teacher, counselor, academic coordinator, Arabic program supervisor and mentor over the years. My journey in education started in 1993 when I became an Arabic and Islamic studies teacher. I became a substitute teacher with Dearborn Public Schools before I held my full time job teaching Mathematics at the American Islamic Academy. Over the years at AIA, I taught Mathematics and Science courses for fourth grade through twelfth grade. Six years later, as the AIA was closed, I started working for Global Educational Excellence at Riverside Academy West where I taught Mathematics at the high school level for eleven years.

My personal and professional goals are to provide our students with the best educational experience possible to develop lifelong learners. I am looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children achieve their highest potential. As parents become more involved in their children’s academic learning process, students will have higher morale, school attendance, grades and test scores. I view being part of GRA as an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of students alongside with a dynamic, progressive group of professionals that build a strong classroom community based on the teachings of Islam.

Fatimah Maki

Preschool Teacher

Assalumu Alaikum,

My name is Fatimah Maki. I am teaching preschool (three-year old) at Great Revelations Academy. I received my certification in Early Childhood Education from Schoolcraft College. As a mother of 4 children, the well being and education of my children is always my main priority. As a mother and teacher, I understand the approaches I need to take with my students as situations arise. For the past thirteen years, I’ve been working in a preschool setting. Through the many years in my field, I have gained the experience and knowledge that reflects on early childhood development. The early years in a child’s life are extremely important for a strong foundation to be built in order to set the stage for the future of their education as they develop.

Children need a safe loving, caring, and positive environment that supports their individual needs, whether it is culturally, socially, emotionally, cognitively or physically. All of these are key elements that reflect on early childhood development as a whole. Children are natural explorers of their environment; with well-structured surroundings, they will experience hands-on activities through play. The individual needs of each child varies from one to another; therefore, I will plan accordingly to the specific learning needs of each child. Great Revelations Academy has adopted a curriculum that is implemented daily where covering alphabetic principles, the subjects of math, science, social studies and socia,l and emotional skills in a theme based classroom setting. The children will also learn the principles of Islam that are developmentally appropriate for their age.

It is a privilege to be a teacher at Great Revelations Academy. I continue to look forward to working in this establishment as we carry on the legacy and traditions built by the founder.

Osama Ayad

Welcome 4th Grade Parents!

As-salamu Alaikum Parents,

My name is Osama Ayad and it is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity to work with your child this year. This is my third year teaching fourth grade at Great Revelations Academy. I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from The University of Michigan-Dearborn where I majored in Elementary Education and Special Education. I am certified to teach grades K-12.

It is my goal to teach students to become lifelong learners. This will enable them to go out into the world, be independent and understand what is expected of them. Throughout the year, I remind students that school prepares them for the real world and everything learned in school (subject area content, social interactions, religion, etc.) is essential in all aspects of life. If I instill into the students that success goes beyond school, then they will succeed in the world.

The transition from third grade to fourth grade is monumental because students are being prepared for middle school and beyond. This year students will be challenged as old concepts are mastered and new concepts are grasped. Students will learn to be reflective thinkers as they read in all subjects. Reading and writing lessons will be tailored based on individual student need and abilities. Math concepts will further develop as knowing and mastering multiplication and division facts are extremely important in fourth grade math. Finally, students will learn science concepts through inquiry based lessons and readings.

On a final note, I am once again honored to teach your child this year. I assure you that your child is in good hands and inshallah we will have an exciting and wonderful year! If you have any questions or concerns please contact me immediately to address the situation.

Sincerely,

Osama Ayad

I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Davenport University in 2005 and I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree at the University of Michigan in Health Information Technology.  I have many years of experience in teaching technology courses to students at different grade levels.   My main focus is to teach middle school students about Microsoft Office and its tools. I am also planning on teaching my students different coding languages. I also want to strengthen the writing and language skills in my elementary school students. I look forward to getting to know the students as well as the parents.

Hassan Ayoub

Gym Teacher

As-salamu Alaikum Parents,

My name is Hassan Ayoub, and it is a great pleasure that I have the opportunity to work with your child this year. I will be the physical education teacher and coach GRA this year. I am certified in CPR/AED to assure you that your child’s health is in good hands. It is my goal to demonstrate proper physical activity to the students and help push them to succeed in living a healthy life. Throughout the year I will remind the students the importance of staying active and eating healthy and how it will help prepare them in the real world after they graduated from school. My goal is to instill in students that success comes with staying physically fit and healthy.

I have been a basketball coach for almost 7 years now. I have coached both at the middle school and high school level. Edsel Ford high school boy’s basketball is where my career began as a coach, and later on adapted to coaching the girls basketball team at Lowery middle school. I have aspirations to coach here at the academy and help build a wonderful program here.

To conclude, I am honored and privileged to teach your child this year. I assure you that your child is in good hands and Insha’Allah a healthier life style. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me immediately through the school email or the school number.
